The Zoellner family has been raising pigeons since 1976. The Zoellners have raced pigeons and now have an excellent white dove team. John and Christian Zoellner are the loft managers for the Zoellner loft.
Erik Zoellner and his brother, Robert Zoellner (Tulsa, OK optometrist) became interested in pigeons as young boys. Erik and Robert studied about pigeons and their role in communications during WWI and WWII. A friend's father was a commercial air conditioner repairman and he brought home some wild pigeons. When Erik and Robert saw the birds flying they both got "pigeonitis" (yes, the boys' mother made up the word :) or put another way, a true love of pigeons developed and both were soon trying to find out how to get some pigeons. The Zoellner brothers' grandfather was a surgeon in Wichita Falls, Texas (Dr. Robert L. Hargrave). Dr. Hargrave's pharmacist, Joe Fooshee, introduced the boys to their first thoroughbred homing pigeons.
